This bread gets its amazing texture from the yeast, and its scrumptious flavors from the punch of the chocolate and the orange rind. Both flavors meld together perfectly with one another, creating the perfect bread for teatime, or as a delicious breakfast when topped with butter or jam.

One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is bread. This delicious recipe is unbelievably easy and beautiful to look at. This bread is also so versatile, my personal favorite combination is cinnamon and chocolate, but this bread can also be filled with dried fruits, aromatic spices, and many different types of nuts.

Plait Bread

Plait bread doesn't only look absolutely stunning, it also looks incredibly difficult! The first time I made this recipe, I was sure I wouldn't be able to do this step! I don't know how to braid my own hair, braiding bread was out of the picture. When this step finally arrived, I decided to give it a go. The directions were a lot easier than I had imagined, and by the end, My bread was plaited! So, believe me when I say, plait bread is a lot easier to make than it looks! ** Dough Recipe adapted from Gemma's Bolder Baking

Here's the recipe:

Dough:

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoons dry yeast

  • 1 2/3 cup all-purpose flour*

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

  • 3/8 cup plain yogurt (approx. 1/2 cup)

  • 1 egg**

* extra flour may be necessary while kneading the dough

** 2 tbsp milk can also replace one egg

Filling:

  • 1/2 semi sweet chocolate chips

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 cup of light brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup of dried cranberries

  • 1/4 cup of orange rind

Remember: this filling can be adapted to suit whatever flavors you would like, if there are some ingredients that you would like more than the ones listed, feel free to switch them out! Some other combos that I have tried are chocolate and strawberries, a cinnamon roll filling with pecans, and even just a chocolate filling with no fruits. As long as the filling isn't too runny, and the nuts/fruits are cut so that the filling doesn't seep out the sides of the bread, the bread will be delicious!
